The Tipton celebrates customer’s 100th birthday
The Tipton and Coseley Building Society recently marked an important milestone for one of its customers, helping them to celebrate their 100th birthday.
Mrs Vanwell has been a customer of the Tipton for almost 90 years. She first visited the Society in 1931 at the age of 11 with her mother, and she has been a loyal customer ever since. In the early days she would save up her pennies in a small silver moneybox and then take this into the Society to pay them into her account.
Throughout the years, Mrs Vanwell has visited every one of the Society’s branches. During her working years she was as a penny collector for gas meters used in the coal industry, and she continued saving with the Tipton along the way. The Society also provided Mrs Vanwell and her late husband with their first mortgage, enabling them to get a foot on the property ladder.
To help mark this very special occasion, she recently visited her local branch where Tipton CEO Richard Newton presented her with some flowers and a small gift. A delighted Mrs Vanwell said: “I must thank the Society, you have helped me and my family so much over the years and every time I visit one of your branches your staff are so welcoming and friendly” .
