What is the interest rate?

The variable rate below applies from 1 October 2018. Interest is calculated daily and paid annually on 31 December.

Can Tipton & Coseley Building Society change the interest rate?

We are able to change the interest rate at any time. Further information can be found in section 7 of our Terms and Conditions for Savings Accounts.

What would the estimated balance be after 12 months?

The balance after 12 months on an initial deposit of £1,000 with an interest rate of 0.4% gross / AER (variable) would be £1,004.00.

This estimation is an illustration only and assumes:

  • the account is opened on 1 January;
  • there are no additional deposits or withdrawals made;
  • interest is paid back into the account;
  • there is no change to the interest rate; and
  • interest is paid gross on 31 December.
How do I open and manage my account?

To open an Investment account you will need to be aged 16 or over. The minimum amount required to open an account is £100 and the maximum overall amount that can be held in savings accounts with us is £500,000.

Accounts can be opened at any of our branch offices without the need to make an appointment beforehand. If you are unable to make it to an office then applications by post are also allowed, simply send a cheque for your opening deposit along with your application.

We are able to access credit reference agency databases which, in most cases will allow us to prove your identity and address without the need for paper-based identification. If we do require further proof of identification we will let you know. £100 must be remain in the account to keep it open. If you need to take the balance below £100 then you must close the account.

You are able to pay money in and withdraw money at any of our branches or through the post. You can pay money into your account by cash, cheque or standing order.

Joint accounts can be opened.

Can I withdraw money?

Withdrawals can be made without charge or notice where the balance in your account remains above £2,000.

Withdrawals that take your balance below £2,000 or withdrawals from balances already below £2,000 will be subject to 30 days loss of interest on the amount of the withdrawal below the £2,000 limit unless 30 days notice is provided.

Our daily withdrawal limits are:

  • £500 by cash; and
  • £20,000 by cheque.

Withdrawal of an amount above these limits require two days notice, subject to £2,500 maximum cash per day. The minimum amount for a cheque withdrawal is £10.

Additional information

Interest is paid gross (without tax deducted).

If you decide within 14 days of opening the account that your Investment account is no longer suitable for you we will arrange to return your money to you or find a more suitable account with the Society.
