Mortgage Underwriter

An exciting opportunity to work with a team responsible for driving change to create a seamless mortgage application process for both direct and introduced business.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who will question existing processes and procedures, offer suggestions and alternatives using our values and help us achieve our mortgage target.

To be considered for this role you will have proven experience in manual mortgage underwriting environment with a current or recent mortgage underwriting mandate.

Salary: £30,000 - £38,000 per annum depending on skills and experience  
Location: Head office, Tipton DY4 8HG
Hours: Permanent full-time position working 35 hours per week

The Society is able to offer hybrid working, following successful completion of an initial probationary period, you would be able to work 2 to 3 days at home each week.

In this role you will:

  • Manage new applications to ensure high levels of accuracy, making sure all applications are fully compliant and processed in a timely manner.
  • Review applications in accordance with the Society’s lending policy and making a recommendation on the underwriting of the application.  
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to proactively provide updates and progress the case within the agreed SLA’s.
  • Proactively review and manage pipeline cases.
  • Issue Mortgage Offer’s in an accurate, concise, and timely manner.

To be successful you will have:

  • A strong result driven focus
  • Excellent workload prioritisation, attendance, and time management skills. 
  • Ability to produce accurate work whilst working to deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral with a mature, credible and comfortable approach dealing with all third parties and colleagues. 
  • Excellent administrative skills, and PC skills covering Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Adaptable to new technology as required, including the use of Laserfiche. 
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and to embrace the principles of Treating Customers Fairly and the Society’s values.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • CeMap Qualified, working towards or a willingness to study.
  • Proven experience in a manual mortgage underwriting environment
  • A current or recent mortgage underwriting mandate
  • A minimum of 5 GCSE grades 9 to 4 / A* to C (or equivalent) including Maths and English.
