Celebratory cake and coffee mornings will take place in our branches, starting with Coseley on Monday 22 June.

Colleagues will be offering refreshments throughout the day and the branch will be decked out with balloons. Branded giveaways are also planned, along with specially baked anniversary biscuits.

The festivities continue at Sedgley on Wednesday 24 June, before moving to Bilston the following day, and finally Codsall on Friday 26 June.

Harjit Singh, the Society’s Head of Retail, said: “We’re proud to be honouring 125 years of serving the community and helping generations of customers achieve their most important financial goals.

“These anniversary events are our way of saying thank you to customers for their loyalty and everyone is welcome. We’d also love to hear people’s memories of the Tipton and how saving or borrowing with the Society has influenced their life.”

The Tipton was founded in 1901 as the Tipton and District Permanent Benefit Building Society, becoming one of over 2,000 building societies then active in the UK. We were situated in the offices of a local solicitor at 30 Owen Street in Tipton, not far from our current head office building.

The stated aims were to ‘encourage continuous and regular savings’ and ‘make advances enabling persons to become house owners’, very much in line with how we support our 37,000 members today.

A second branch opened in Coseley in 1933 and the Society officially changed its name to Tipton & Coseley Building Society in 1972.
