Donation helps Cup’s centenary celebrations kick off in style
Fundraisers for a historic charity football competition have welcomed a helping hand from the Tipton as they mark their centenary.
The JW Hunt Cup was first contested in 1926 to raise money for people living with sight loss. Still going strong in its 100th year, the competition’s principal charity is Beacon Centre for the Blind and total proceeds since its inception are approaching £500,000.
We stepped in to support arrangements for the JW Hunt Cup’s anniversary dinner at Molineux Stadium, making a donation of £700 which was presented to the Cup’s fundraising committee at our Codsall branch.
Sylvia Enefer, Vice President and Official Fundraiser for the JW Hunt Cup, said: “We’d like to thank the Tipton for their generous donation in respect of the work we do for Beacon Centre for the Blind.
“The Society has kindly helped us in previous years, but this time offered to increase their donation to reflect the significance of our centenary milestone, which we really appreciate.
“Through the JW Hunt Cup itself, and supplementary events like our gala dinner, we can make a positive difference to those in our community who are living with sight loss and raise awareness of the importance of eye health.”
Dudley Town FC are current holders of the JW Hunt Cup, winning the competition for the second time in a gripping penalty shootout against AFC Wolverhampton City back in May. Preliminary round fixtures for the new season’s Cup begin later this month.
The JW Hunt Cup is for amateur or semi-professional football clubs from the West Midlands, Staffordshire and Shropshire.
It is named in memory of John William Hunt, a local businessman who founded the Chillington Tool Company and was a renowned supporter of local charities.
The 100th anniversary dinner celebrates the competition’s legacy and its continued partnership with the Beacon Centre. It is also an opportunity to thank sponsors and the people who arrange and support the Cup each year.
