On Friday 24th November 2023, the Mayor of Sandwell will be switching on Tipton’s Tree of Light, as the local community gather to remember lost loved ones.

The Tree of Light, in Owen Street, Tipton, is organised by Tipton Civic Society, giving the local community an opportunity to remember loved ones by displaying names on a roll of remembrance around the tree, whilst helping to raise money for local charities. The 2022 Christmas Tree of Light appeal alone raised £6,000 which was distributed to local charities including: Acorn Children’s Hospice, Sandwell Advocacy, and Tipton Food Bank.

The appeal gives the opportunity for names to be entered onto a roll of remembrance around the illuminated Christmas tree in Owen Street, by making a donation of £5 per name. Donation forms are available at Tipton Libraries, Tipton & Coseley Building Society head office, or by calling 0121 520 0080.

We have supported the Tree of Light appeal for over 30 years, during which time it has become a much-loved part of the festive season in the community.

Emma Gibbons from the Tipton and Coseley Building Society said: "The Tree of Light Appeal enables our community to come together to remember those we have lost and raise money for local causes. We are pleased to continue our support to the Tipton Civic Society and bring the community together at a special time during Christmas."
